Mulled Wine

Ingredients:

Mulled Wine


 Serves 12 glasses 
1 bottle of full bodied red wine
300ml (10floz) standard port wine
300ml water
125 – 175g (4 – 6 oz) brown demerara sugar
1 small orange or tangerine studded with 8 cloves
1 stick cinnamon
¼ tsp grated nutmeg
2-inch piece of lemon peel 

 
Method:

Mulled Wine


 Method
 Place water, sugar and lemon peel and studded orange/tangerine into a pan and heat gently
Stir until the sugar has dissolved, then add the wine, port and nutmeg, cinnamon stick
Bring all up to the simmer but do not boil
Remove from the heat and strain
Pour into warmed glasses and enjoy
